چکیده
Abstract. Revealing the error components of satellite-only precipitation products (SPPs) can help algorithm developers and end-users understand their features improve retrieval algorithms. Here, two decomposition schemes are employed to explore IMERG-Late, GSMaP-MVK, PERSIANN-CCS SPPs over different seasons, rainfall intensities, topography classes. Global maps total bias (total mean squared error) its three (two) independent depicted for first time. The evaluation results similar regions discussed, it is found that one region cannot be extended another region. Hit and/or false biases major in most overland globally. systematic contributes less than 20 % areas. Large errors primarily due missed precipitation. It show topographic patterns terms random errors. Notably, among SPPs, GSMaP-MVK shows strongest dependency four scores. A novel metric, namely normalized component (NEC), proposed as a means isolate impact on Potential methods improving satellite retrievals adjustment models discussed.

Precipitation is one of the most important parameters on the earth system, and the global distribution of precipitation and its change are essential data for modeling the water cycle, maintaining the ecosystem environment, agricultural production, improvements of the weather forecast precision, flood warning and so on. In the GPM (Global Precipitation Measurement) project, the microwave radiome...

The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) products have been widely used, but their error and uncertainty characteristics over diverse climate regimes still need to be quantified. In this study, we focused on a systematic evaluation of TMPA’s error characteristics over mainland China, with an improved error-component analysis procedure. We perf...

Gridded fields (analyses) of global monthly precipitation have been constructed on a 2.5° latitude–longitude grid for the 17-yr period from 1979 to 1995 by merging several kinds of information sources with different characteristics, including gauge observations, estimates inferred from a variety of satellite observations, and the NCEP–NCAR reanalysis. This new dataset, which the authors have na...
